Tablets and mobile devices are growing in popularity among smartphone users. It is no longer a matter of debate whether tablets and mobile phones are going to become more mainstream. Some experts are predicting that tablets and mobile phones are going to replace PCs as the primary way of communication. Tablet devices are now capable of doing almost anything a smart phone can.
Nowadays, tablets are the most preferred form of technology as they are easy to carry, light in weight and consume less battery power. They are used to make phone calls, watch movies, and play games. They are small, handy and perfect for those on the go. They can be called the “toys” of technology. In the future, tablets are expected to become more portable with a touch screen and to run on energy efficient operating systems. Some tablets can be connected with other electronic devices and can be used to perform an amazing array of tasks.
Here’s a quick review of Smartphone and a Tablet:
Smartphones and tablets are both smart. They serve the users in a different way. While a smartphone is a great choice when you need access to a device that can do almost anything and that provides access to all the tools and features you need to use, tablets and smartphones have different uses. For example, tablets are primarily used as handheld portable gaming devices while smartphones are preferred by mobile professionals for their functionality, versatility and ease-of-use.
Phones are in the form factor of a phone. They can be “dumb”, meaning, they are not capable of executing programs like a tablet can. This is the opposite of a PC or Laptop. A “dumb” phone may come with some software pre-installed like a pre-installed web browser and Facebook app. Smartphones can also run apps and install “apps” from the Google Play Store or iOS app store. These are pre-installed apps which are ready to be used. They are not apps downloaded from the internet as they are already built and have nothing to do with downloading them. This means that you must install them using a cable, not the internet. For this article, we will stick to phones for now and we will discuss tablets in the next section.
A tablet can come pre-installed with a full suite of software including a web browser, email client and pre-installed apps. In fact, I would argue that most Tablet devices can be used for more than a smartphone. They are typically much more powerful and they have more screen space and are usually smaller than a smartphone. Tablets can be classified into four categories. These are tablets without keyboards, tablets with physical keyboards, hybrids with some detachable physical keyboard functionality and styluses.
